Research and planning for Quiz show

Quiz show ideas..
Everybody loves a good laugh with an interesting but funny quiz show such as; QI, Have i go new for you, mock the week, never mind the buzz cocks. These all fall under inform educate and intertain which fal under the  bbc mandate. I want my quiz to appeal to a younger audience so like 'never mind the buzz cocks' and 'have i got news for you' i will use celebs and bright but fashonable colours which appeal to my target audience of my new tv channel.

My Quiz show....

I used blue boards, blue couches, magazine cut outs, pins, floor lights and a few helpers.
I used magazines and newspapers  such as cosmo, heat and the sun, showing who my target audience are. The set was filmed and photographed in Hedingham school were we could directly show the quiz to our target audience to see if they liked the live feel of the quiz show. I made sure we didnt have too much background noise so i put up a sign saying media production in process do not disturb, this meant we can clearly here our hosts present the show and here all the funny comments from the celeb guests.

Task 2, oh dear...

Well i originally chose to research and plan an advert which advertises new TV channels in newspapers, i have searched on the Internet for newspaper adverts about TV channels, nothing came up so i tried to be more specific so i typed E4 adverts in newspaper, MTV adverts in newspapers and Dave newspaper adverts. But nothing, so i decided to make my work easier and try the other task.

So now for my second task i will be make a double spreed advert advertising my new TV channel in a magazine.

I have looked in a few magazines and found a couple of adverts, but they are not advertising the TV channel they only advertise different shows of the channel which i believe is the next best thing.

Here are the adverts i have found:
Top Gear
Nintendo TV- which could be a sort of channel

This is the top gear advert which shows Jeremy Clarkson in one of top gears shows where they go to South Africa, its the most dangerous top gear yet.
The colour scheme is simple but eye catching the RED is symbolic of blood, as the story says that its a very dangerous show in this week one. The black and white shows how serious they are trying to be but we all know top gear is about boys and their toys.
The lay out is very simple, picture on one side taking up an A4 page and a insight about the show indulging the audience with a big image and a short story.
This Advert work well it states a message and show how serious they are by the colour scheme. Big bold picture and simple story works well not over crowded, it would appeal to an older age range.

This advert was in a gaming magazine which appeals to a much younger audience compared to the top gear magazine above, you can tell this by the amount of colour uses, all the images used and the fact the advert is on a Nintendo TV were you can play and watch. I don't believe this advert works, there is far to much going on. It would appeal to youngsters who are full of life and love gaming but thats only appeals to a small percentage of 13-21 year olds. Its successful for its target audience and i like the left side of it i just would prefer something more structured. I would say it doesn't have a colour scheme but  the two main colours that stand out are Green and Blue which are stereotypically boys colours. So they have narrowed down there target audience in this advert.
Another advert about TOPGEAR, however this one looks entertaining and fun compared to the first one. This one would appeal to a target audience about 10-30 years old, because it looks professional and exciting. The colour scheme it mostly Black white and red, which again connotaion for blood and danger showing that this show is dangerous and entertaining.

Stereotypically there were two adverts about top gear in a car related magazine and a football related magazine. FourFourtwo and Upfront.

Audience Feedback on exsisting TV shows for my channel.

Research;
Below i have asked my target audience what they watch and at which times they watch regularly. I have given an example of each age group at the top and highlighted in green their result the tally of all the outcomes on the right side.

The Graph above shows that banter is the highest category that the target audience have chosen.

Then i asked them in an open question what their favorite comedy show is. The top shows are Mock the week, Big bang theory and Friends all voted for by the target audience.

Hours per week?
5-10hours are the highest category, which means the audience either watch after the water shed hour or they are too busy for tv so they watch more on demand.

These results show that most of my target audience watch tv from the time they get home which in some cases is from 3-4pm to 6-7pm.  They mostly watch tv on and after the water shed hour where the programmes are not filtered or censored out.

Finally the majority of  the target audinece said yes they would watch a new comedy show as they are open to light entertainment with all the studying and revision they have to do.

Questionnaire

This is my questionnaire i will hand this out to my target audience 13-22years old. This will help me determine when i need to put certain programmes at certain times, i would have to put sitcoms on the earlier hours and things like live at the apollo which swear would be above the water shed hour.

What i have learned from my audiences feedback!.

Focus group on the 4U Ident

This is the focus group of the ident i have produced they agree it is enterinment for their age group but it is simply a little too long. so if i had the time i would make a second version and edit it so it was only 30 second in stead of 1minute. I would like to film again to suit my target audience, i would film the actress laying down maybe eating an ice cream and the ice cream melts or falls off, cheesey classical comedy. However as all channels they dont just have one Ident they are continuously changing and making new idents so I am happy that this is my first ident as the next would be better if i was making it for a real TV channel.

I learnt that the younger audience (13-16) lost interest quicker than the older audience.  The older audience (16-24) found it amusing and liked the vintage style of the ident as the older audience are into vintage and the older styles in fashion and film. As a result i decided to keep the ident the way it is as it does please both age ranges, one more than the other.

Evaluation of the Ident..

Editing.... what i did and why.

  1. Captured Ident on the Apple Mac using Premier pro.
  2. Muted the original sound which is of me directing my little sister the actor
  3. Cut and deleted sections i didn't need
  4. Used a digital camera to film the Ident.
  5. At this point i had to just play around with the speed/ duration from 100% to anything  between 500% i finally went with 250% and 300% in ser4tain areas. I found it too slow so i tried 400% which worked but not at the beginning were the camera moves the sceen jumps around to much.
  6. My ident was suposed to look like a laurel and hardy film but modern with colour, however the grain effect on the mac don't work so i could use it unless i paid to upload it and if this was a real ident i would but its only for A level.
  7. I also had to rotate and crop the screen to drop out the graveyard, ed and the chickens which kept walking onto my set.
  8. What makes a great laurel and hardy film? The music which complements the scene and comedy, so i downloaded slapstic music from youtube but then downloaded it on to audacity so i could edit the music. I changed the tempo of the music to suit the film.
  9. Once finished editing the music i exported as a wav file and imported into premiere pro.

The Laurel and Hardy at the bottom in colour is what i was aiming for in my ident that was my first inspiration but to make it appeal to the younger generation.
  10. I used mainly two different effect dissolve and dip to black. However i tried to experiment with th noise and grain to make my ident look like an old black and white movie.
  11. I downloaded the count down at the beginning of my ident off mega upload site, were it shows old movie counts downs.
  12. I also learnt how to rotate, right click and select motion then click rotation then at effects control manually typed in how much to rotate.
  13. I also discovered how to embed video's on blogger using video platforms such as youtube by selecting new post click in video from youtube then you have to type in the http: code.

final ident

Tada.. my final Ident for my new TV channel, it lasts about 1 minute. This is the original long version of the ident, normally on TV they have the full version first then they would cut it down until they make a new Ident. Also on some Idents like the bbc's, channel 5 movies and E4 channels they talk over the ident to introduce what channels are next and on later tonight. Which is why i dont mind my Ident being  a minute long because they are like that when the spoken schedule is on top of the ident.

This is my second take of my ideal ident,

The Set of my Ident

For my first A2 task i had to design and make a film and ident so everyone can see what channel they are watching. I got my inspiration from the E4 ident with a teddy fishing at the sea side, its animated which i wanted to do but the lack of technology at school meant i couldn't do animation, i have seen an old MTV ident which had people dancing in it so i have combined the sea side ident with the MTV ident to form a modern but old styled ident. I am going to speed up the ident so it looks like an old black and white film but keep it in colour to make it look like a modern version of the old films. I'm hoping to find some funny cheesy slapstick music to go with my film. I will mute the original sound and play the music as the main sound.
This is the set , ident and how i put it together and where i filmed my ident. I directed and filmed in my back garden, i created the back drop which took a day to draw everything out and cut it all out then i had to do two coats of paint on the sea sheds which took two days to complete. Once i had finished the back drop i had to dig it down to stand up, I then  laid down the plastic sheet so we can use the sand afterwards. We had to wheel building sand up to the location from my front garden which was a lot of hard work it was finally finished around half past six. The bad obstacles which i had to over come was the weather and the lack of day light, i would have loved to shoot the scene on a sunny day but i was really unlucky and hardly got any sun. I checked the weather so i could film on a sunny day, Wednesday 17th of August was meant to be the sunniest day but it was over cast in the morning but only cleared after lunch time, so it was a race to build the set so i could film in sunlight. Unfortunately i had the garden walls' shadow projected on the sea sheds while i was trying to film. Another problem is that my garden is home to 9 chickens who kept walking on to my film set, so my sisters had to keep chasing them away so my family's shadows were on the sea shed back drop. I only took one take of the fist section were Christin, the actress, put on all the diving equipment, this is the scene which has the shadows in the back ground.

Sunday 28 August 2011

This is my first fundamental plan of my Ident. This will merely be a few seconds short. Subsequently I will need to speed up the short scene and adjoin canned laughter towards the end.
In my plan at this time I will use a tracking shot, (following the dummy waddle down the sand) a high angle shot (showing the dummy jumping suggesting he’s about to jump in the sea) and a birds-eye view (to show him actually jumping into a paddling pool.
I will have to make it give the impression of being more realistic as if my ‘dummy’ is on the beach so I’ll paint a back drop of rocks to conceal the surroundings. This is my illusion, (day dream, fantasy of the kind of Ident that I would like); I will lead the audience to think that it scene is at the beach but then zoom out at the end and divulge the truth. This is funny and cleaver at the same time. I believe it will work better once finished. just had another thought, i think it would be great if i represented the England flag as it will be the background of my website.

Draft web designing

These are my website designs i prefer the top one because its more youthful, look fun and cool. Compared to the union jack back ground which would not appeal to the youths of today because they are not very patriotic, but i should test this theory by handing out questionnaires.
